Want better texture and flavor from your tofu? Give it a quick boil in salted water. This simple step firms it up and gets it ready to soak up flavor.

Ingredients

  • Tofu
  • Water
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Cut a package of tofu into cubes.
  2. Place in a small saucepan and add enough water to cover.
  3. Add a generous teaspoon of salt.
  4. Bring to a boil and cook for about 5 minutes.
  5. Drain, and your tofu is ready for any recipe—pan-fried, stir-fried, or baked.

Tips

Boiling tofu in salted water before cooking changes its texture, draws out excess moisture, and helps it take on the flavors of marinades and sauces. A little prep, a better bite.
